KLANG: A 14-year-old student was among three suspects who were arrested on Friday for allegedly robbing a ride-sharing Grabcar driver of his car, cash and valuables worth RM45,000 days earlier.
Klang South police chief ACP Shamsul Amar Ramli said the student, a 25-year-old shop assistant, and a 44-year-old self-employed man, were arrested at about 11.15am after police received information on their whereabouts.
The shop assistant, who tested positive for drug abuse, has past criminal records for car theft, robbery and drug-related offences.
Shamsul said two days after the robbery on Jan 7, police recovered the stolen car at Taman Maznah, Klang.
He said investigations showed that the older suspects had used the Grabcar application with the student's cellphone, before a 43-year-old driver was sent to fetch them from Kampung Jawa, where all three suspects live.
It is learnt that on arriving at their destination at Bandar Putera, Klang, the suspects pulled off a ruse by asking the victim to step out of the car to help them look for a cellphone that had fallen in the backseat.
When the driver stepped out, a suspect threw a punch at him but the man managed to duck in time and took to his heels. The suspects then drove off with the car, in which the victim had left his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The driver reported the case to police soon after.
