PUTRAJAYA: A total of 3.6 million Malaysians who have attained the age of 21 as of September 2017 have yet to register as electors, the Election Commission (EC) said today. EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said that as of the third quarter of 2017, the electoral rolls contained 14.8 million electors.
The EC received 212,042 fresh applications for registration as electors and 72,998 applications for change of address in the fourth quarter of 2017, he said in a statement.
Abdul Ghani said the supplementary electoral rolls for the fourth quarter of 2017 would be displayed for 14 days, from tomorrow to Jan 30, at 961 places around the country.
He advised those who had applied to register as electors or for the change of address in October, November and December last year to check the rolls to verify the information.
Fresh applicants whose names did not appear in the displayed rolls could make a claim on Form B and submit it to the registrar (state election director), for the relevant registration area during office hours on any working day during the period of display of the rolls, he said.
Registered electors in any election area who wanted to object to the inclusion of the name of anyone in the 4/2017 supplementary rolls could do so on Form C. An individual could raise an objection against not more than 20 people in accordance with Regulation 15(3) of the Elections (Registration of Electors) Regulations 2002.
"The objection should be submitted to the registrar for the relevant registration area during office hours on any working day during the display of the 4/2017 Supplementary Electoral Rolls," he said.
During the display of the electoral rolls, the EC would also display the names of electors that would be removed from the rolls due to death or loss of citizenship status.
Abdul Ghani said applicants could surf the EC website at www.spr.gov.my or via the smart telephone application My SPR Semak to check the list of names displayed in the 4/2017 supplementary electoral rolls.
Any query on the 4/2017 supplementary electoral rolls should be addressed to the EC head office via 03-88927018 or any state election office, he added. — Bernama
