KUALA LUMPUR: Police are unable to act against Ummah president Ismail Mina Ahmad for sedition as they have yet to receive any report on his alleged hate-filled speeches and distorted historical facts.
Federal Criminal Investigations Department (CID) director Commissioner Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said those who call for a police probe on the group for hosting the forum should lodge a report so the police can conduct their investigation into the allegation.
Ismail had told the convention on Saturday that only the Malay community had resisted British colonialists and Japanese occupiers, erasing the contributions of other ethnic groups.
Ismail, the chairman of the Ummah umbrella group for Muslim organisations, also asserted that only the Malays had battled the communists, which he claimed made the community a target of the predominantly-Chinese insurgency that lasted for 40 years.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (Macva) president Major (Rtd) Tan Pau Son had said Ismail's remarks were not only historically and factually wrong, but had belittled the contributions of the non-Malay veterans including the Ibans, Indians, Sikhs.
"We participated in defending our country and some of us still have scars to show that we were there risking our lives," said Tan.
"All Malaysians should rebut all these inaccurate and irresponsible assertions made by Ismail," he said.
