Jakarta Stock Exchange collapse: Malaysian students, officials safe

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian students and officials who were in the vicinity of the Jakarta Stock Exchange when its mezzanine floor collapsed on Monday are reportedly safe, Wisma Putra said today.
Wisma Putra said 22 Malaysian students from the Management Science University, representing Malaysia at the Asean CIMB Stock Challenge 2.0 Competition, and Higher Education Ministry representatives and Education Malaysia officials who accompanied them were in the vicinity of the exchange during the incident.
"All the students and Malaysian officials have been evacuated to the adjacent Graha CIMB Niaga building," it said in a statement.
Wisma Putra said the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta was monitoring the situation closely.

The mezzanine floor at the stock exchange in Tower II along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Senayan, central Jakarta, collapsed during the midday trading break on Monday, injuring tens of workers and other people.
It was reported that a group of university students from the island of Sumatra visiting the building on a study tour were among the injured. — Bernama
