Perkasa supports call for Bumi-only scholarship

PETALING JAYA: Perkasa has thrown its support behind retired teacher Datuk Raof Husin who called on the government to stop giving scholarships to non-bumiputras.
The Malay rights group said the government must review the scholarship issue because the economic divide between Bumiputras and non-bumiputras is widening.
Perkasa deputy president Datuk Sirajuddin Salleh said the government must look into this matter urgently and do something now before it is too late.
Over the weekend, Raof who represents the Malaysian Association of Former Education Officers, told the Ummah convention that the government was constitutionally bound to limit study aid to Bumiputra students to uplift Malay supremacy in the country ahead of the 14th general election.
Sirajuddin, who is also the Perkasa education bureau head, said scholarships serve as an effective instrument to raise the economic dominance of the Bumiputras.
He said the number of Bumiputra professionals are much smaller, which can be attributed to the high cost of further education, which has served as a barrier to the "less fortunate".
He said those who are opposed to scholarships for Bumiputras are anti-national unity and at the same time wish to see the country destroyed.
