Two robbers killed in shootout with police

MALACCA: Two robbers with eight criminal records were killed in a shootout with the Special Task Force On Organised Crime (Stafoc) at Jalan Gangsa, Batu Berendam in Alor Gajah here yesterday.
The drama unfolded when the duo, believed to be a local and a foreigner were acting suspiciously in a Mercedes Benz in Taman Seri Bayan.
Sources said the duo were roaming around Taman Seri Bayan at 12.45pm when policemen from the elite team approached them.
The men were ordered to stop their vehicle and surrender for a thorough check on their vehicle.
Instead, they started firing at the team of policemen, forcing the cops to return fire.
The two suspects, believed to be in their 40s, were killed in the shootout.
Alor Gajah district police chief Supt A Asmadi Abd Aziz said once the shootout ended, policemen found the duo dead in their car.
"Police also found a pistol and three live bullets in the car," he said at the scene.
Asmadi added the suspects had eight criminal records – four in Shah Alam, two in Kuala Lumpur and two in Johor.
"Investigators are in the midst of ascertaining more detail on their backgrounds. Even before the shootout, our preliminary investigations revealed that the duo were targeting victims and hotspots for their next robbery.
"We believe they targeted victims who withdrew cash from banks and that's basically their modus operandi," he added.
Their bodies were sent to the Malacca Hospital for a post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
