64,000 police personnel to be deployed for GE14

PASIR GUDANG: Police will deploy 64,000 police personnel for the coming 14th General Election (GE14) nationwide, Federal police's Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said today.
Zulkifli said he had visited police and marine police here in the past two days. He was speaking to the media after testing a patrol boat at Dalac Marine Engineering and Services at Teluk Jawa, here, today.
He said he is satisfied that the Johor police are prepared and have done simulation exercises for GE14.
The 64,000 police personnel to be deployed comprise the General Operations Force (GOP), Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and police. They will be posted at various polling stations to ensure public order.
On top of that, another 5,000 voluntary police will be stationed at police stations to assist operation on polling day.
"We have enough police personnel and assets in the GE14," Zulkifli said.
He said the next schedule simulation exercise will be held in February.
The drill exercise aims to have tested police teams' responses to social unrest in five different phases , namely post-dissolution of Parliament, nomination day, the campaigning period, polling day and the post-general election period.
On the development of Pengerang, Zulkifli Abdullah said police suggest that the government increases the Pengerang marine police personnel when Petronas' Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) is in operation.
He said there will be many foreign vessels using the waterway there.
