KUALA LUMPUR: The police forensics unit has collected DNA samples from the chair that struck 14-year-old S. Satiswaran, killing him instantly while he was with his mother at a low-cost flat in Pantai Dalam here on Monday.
City police chief Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor today said police have so far questioned 31 occupants of the flats to facilitate investigations into the incident.
"The individuals questioned comprised those occupants from the flats and witnesses during the incident. Of the 31 people questioned, five individuals' statements will be analysed thoroughly," he said.
Mazlan added that the case has been classified as murder, with the culprit behind the incident facing the mandatory death sentence.
"Police hope that the public will cooperate with the investigation and would not speculate unwanted information that would jeopardise the probe.
"We urge anyone with information that can help in the case to come forward and contact investigative officers ASP Firdaus Sharil at 012-3388164 or 03-90516222 or DSP Tonny Lunggan from Brickfields district police headquarters at 014-6225262."
The victim, a Form Three student of SMK La Salle in Petaling Jaya, was accompanying his mother, 45, who had just finished grocery shopping.
When they were about to enter their apartment block at about 8.30pm an office chair, believed to have been thrown from one of the upper floors, crashed down and struck Satiswaran.
The boy died at the scene while his mother was fortunate not to have also been struck by the chair.
