KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman was injured after his motorcycle was hit by a car which was directed to stop at a traffic light junction in Paya Jaras, Sungai Buloh near here.
The incident also forced the police to fire four gunshots.
Sungai Buloh District Police chief Supt S. Somu said in the 11.05am incident, two police officers from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit had ordered a Honda Civic car with two men on board to stop for a check.
However, the driver of the car acted aggressively and knocked down one of the policemen's motorcycles, he said.
Somu said the policeman who fell down fired a shot at the suspects' car while his colleague pursued the suspects to a house in Jalan Paya Jaras Hilir.
"When the policeman attempted to arrest the driver of the car, (after his accomplice had alighted) in front of the house, the man reversed the car and hit the policeman's motorcycle, prompting the latter to fire three shots," he said.
Somu said, however, the driver managed to escape in the car before abandoning it at Kampung Kubu Gajah.
The suspect's 49-year-old accomplice was detained and found to have five drug-related criminal records.
"The forensic team has conducted an investigation at the scene, and the hunt is still on for the suspect at large. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code (for attempt to murder).
"The first policeman who was hit by the suspect's car suffered injuries to his face, legs and hands, while his colleague was unharmed" he said.
Members of the public who have any information regarding the case are urged to contact the Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters at 03-61561222. — Bernama
