Villagers shocked to find WWII mortar bomb

BALIK PULAU: An old mortar bomb which was believed to be from the World War II era was discovered by residents from Kampung Terang here on Tuesday.
They summoned the police bomb disposal unit, who combed the area and managed to locate the bomb which measured 81mm.
It was an explosive material that has been inactive for a long time and posed no threat.
The explosive device was taken back for checks, said southwest district police chief ACP A. Anbalagan.
He said the scene which been cordoned off earlier but it was later declared as safe at about 10.30pm on the same day.
The device was also badly corroded to enable the unit to immediately identify whether the bomb came from the Japanese Imperial Forces or from the Allies who were their enemies in the last great global war.
