Dismantle Batu Tiga, Sungai Rasau toll plazas immediately: Works Ministry

SHAH ALAM: Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today ordered PLUS Malaysia Bhd to immediately dismantle the toll plazas at Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau in Selangor, where toll collection ceased on Jan 1, so as to avoid accidents at the two places.
He said he had been informed by the Malaysian Highway Authority that the toll concessionaire PLUS had issued a tender to engage a contractor to undertake the work.
The slowing down of vehicles at the toll plazas could cause accidents, he said to reporters after opening the centralised labour quarters provided by Construction Labour Exchange Centre Berhad (CLAB), here.
Bernama had reported the requests from several road users for the toll plazas to be dismantled so as to avert accidents, because motorists were forced to slow down due to the narrow lanes.
Last Monday, two people were killed after a car rammed a pillar at the Batu Tiga toll plaza.
Toll collection at the two plazas, which began on Nov 15, 1993, ceased on Jan 1 this year, 20 years earlier than scheduled, following an announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak when tabling Budget 2018 in the Dewan Rakyat, on Oct 27 last year.
Along with the toll collection at Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau, the toll collection at Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah and the Eastern Dispersal Link in Johor was also abolished on Jan 1. — Bernama
