Jailed ex-property lawyer faces another CBT charge

KUALA LUMPUR: A former property lawyer who is serving a five-year jail sentence at Kajang Prison in Selangor for criminal breach of trust (CBT) was brought to the Sessions Court here today, charged with a similar offence, involving sale and purchase of a house amounting to RM59,550.71.
Yap Ooi Lye, 38, wearing green baju kurung claimed trial to committing the offence at the office of Messrs Jenny Yap Associates at Jalan Metro Perdana 8, Taman Usahawan Kepong here, between Nov 10, 2014, and Jan 17, 2917.
She was charged in her then capacity as an advocate and solicitor entrusted by her firm to handle clients' accounts with Maybank.
The money was paid by Hong Leong Bank Islamic Bank from the home loan account of Mohamed Burkhannuden Jafarullah Khan, 44, for a house at Mutiara Magna, Jalan Metro 1, Metro Prima here, that should have been handed over to a school bus operator Nordin Md Noh, 59, and his wife Natinah Mohamed Shaari, 49.
Yap faces Section 409 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping, and liable to a fine if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Norashikin Ibrahim did not propose bail as the accused, who was unrepresented, is serving sentence.
Judge Azman Ahmad fixed Feb 21 for mention and submission of documents. — Bernama
