MAS flight from Sydney to KL suffers technical difficulties

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines Flight MH122, an Airbus A330-300 departing Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, experienced technical difficulties and was forced to divert to Alice Springs, Australia, the company confirmed.
"Malaysia Airlines flight MH122/18 that departed Sydney for Kuala Lumpur at 1.06pm on 18 Jan experienced a technical fault on one of the aircraft's engines," it said on the statement posted on MAS' Facebook page.
However, MAS assured that the safety of passengers and cabin crew were not compromised at anytime.
"Safety was not at anytime compromised and the commanding captain decided to divert the flight for technical assistance. The A330-300 aircraft landed safely in Alice Springs Airport at 5.48pm."
All the affected passengers have been given hotel accommodation, meals and transportation.
Passengers will leave from Alice Springs to Kuala Lumpur on flight MH148 on Friday.
"The flight is scheduled to depart Alice Springs at 5.45pm and is expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 9.50pm the same day (Jan 19)."
Malaysia Airlines said it is working very hard to put the affected passengers on the next available flight to their destination.
