MCA and Gerakan agree to swap some seats for GE14

MCA and Gerakan have reached a seat swap agreement for at least two parliamentary and three state constituencies, Sin Chew Daily reported today.
It is understood that Kepong, a seat traditionally contested by Gerakan but was "loaned" to MCA in the 13th General Election (GE13), will be returned to Gerakan in the coming polls.
In Johor, the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat, which MCA was forced to make way for Umno to set up a battle royale between then Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman and DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, is expected to be given back to MCA and will most likely be contested by MCA division chief Teoh Sew Hock.
Of the three state seats agreed upon in the seat swap talks, Skudai, which was given to MCA to contest in the last election, will be returned to Gerakan this time around.
The other two constituencies involve the MCA Tanah Rata seat and the Gerakan Ketari seat, which are in Pahang.
In a direct swap in GE13, MCA contested Ketari and a Gerakan candidate was fielded in Tanah Rata. In the upcoming polls, MCA will contest in Tanah Rata and Gerakan in Ketari.
MCA "loaned out" three parliamentary seats in GE13, but apart from Gelang Patah, the party faces problem getting back Kuantan and Wangsa Maju.
Although Umno agrees to return Wangsa Maju, the caveat is MCA cannot field Datuk Yew Teong Look, who refused to campaign for the Umno candidate in GE13.
As for the Kuantan parliamentary seat, the word is that Umno has insisted that it should contest the seat, although MCA said it has already identified its candidate for the constituency.
