PETALING JAYA: Online purchasers are in for a whale of a time as Alibaba's Tmall recently announced its Chinese New Year promotions and initiatives for Malaysian consumers.
There will be over one million discounts and offers for products purchased online via Tmall.com and Taobao.com. The "mega bargains" will be available between Jan 24 and 28. Among the promotions and discounts are:
* Grab the ang pau on Taobao.com! Spend RMB666 and get RMB88 off plus spend RMB88 and get RMB18 off;
* Exclusive vouchers for overseas users (Malaysians included); and
* Free shipping on "Flash Sale" products.
In addition to the deals and steals, purchasers/consumers also stand to win invites to the "Tmall World Chinese New Year Dinner", an exclusive event that will gather some 1,000 guests on Jan 26 at the impressive Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam.
Invitees can expect big time entertainment from international celebrity Michael Wong a.k.a GuangLiang, a carnival atmosphere with fun-filled activities, as well as lion and dragon dance performances and a mega reunion-style Chinese dinner. Personnel from Tmall and Taobao, children and representatives from Rumah Victory Children and Youth Home, Yayasan Sunbeams Home, Rumah Kanak-kanak Trinity, Rumah Charis and Rumah K.I.D.S. will be part of the festive celebration, together with lucky consumers.
"Chinese New year is a time for unity and generosity," said Tmall SEA business development manager Cici Cai at the press conference. She also mentioned that Tmall will be visiting the five charity homes for children to share gifts and joy leading to the festive celebration.
Briefly, Taobao Marketplace was officially launched in 2003 whereas Tmall World made its entry into the e-commerce sphere in 2008. Both e-enterprises are under the Alibaba Group.
In Malaysia, Tmall World made its debut in June 2017. "The initiatives we have planned for the celebrations here in Malaysia speak volumes - of how we value and appreciate the tremendous support we have received from our Malaysian consumers since launch," Cai said.
While both Tmall and Taobao e-commerce sites are presented in the Chinese language, the English and Bahasa Malaysia-speaking community are able to access information and purchase retail goods via Lazada.
