PETALING JAYA: The People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) said they are not a political party and only aim to assist the country in maintaining public order.
Rela director-general Zulkifli Zainal Abidin said if the public was dissatisfied with the conduct of its members, they can write to its complaints bureau or to the district Rela commander.
Zulkifli was speaking after launching the new Rela logo and the Rela Honorary and Associate Club at the MCA headquarters.
Zulkifli also expressed his unhappiness where honorary Rela ranks were sold to individuals for between RM10,000 and RM30,000 each.
It was reported that so-called Rela cards and certificates, which were not issued by the Rela headquarters, were also among the items sold illegally.
The honorary ranks were sold to individuals who wanted to volunteer their service to Rela.
In the same event, MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong was promoted to Honorary Commissioner of Rela.
Club chairman Datuk Chai Kee Kan said the club has 600 members and urged more Malaysians to volunteer their services to Rela.
