TAWAU: About 40,000 out of 270,000 personnel of the Ministry of Health have been confirmed as not being registered with the Election Commission (EC) as voters yet, said Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahya.
He advised those who had yet to register as voters to do so soon to be eligible to exercise their right in the coming 14th general election.
"We (government employees) have to carry out our responsibility as voters in our respective constituencies.
"We have 1.6 million government employees and we need to support the government which has been taking care of us (staff), among others (by giving us) promotions and salary raise, as well as providing a pension system, with the government allocating RM30 billion in pension payments a year for retired civil servants," he said.
Hilmi, who is Balik Pulau Member of Parliament, was speaking at a programme organised by the Tawau Umno Youth movement in collaboration with the Tawau Nursing College here today. — Bernama
