KUANTAN: A jobless man burned down his family house in Jengka 11, Maran after his mother refused to give him money yesterday.
Maran police chief DSP Norzamri Abd Rahman said the 37-year-old suspect was believed to have carried out the act at 2pm after threatening to do it for the past two days.
"There were however no casualties in the fire as the suspect's mother, 66, had gone to live with another son due to the aggressive behaviour of the suspect.
"The suspect was nabbed near the house and from initial investigations, he was believed to have started the fire by burning a mattress in the house," Norzamri told reporters here today.
He added that the fire caused the semi-brick and wooden house to be 80% destroyed and losses were estimated at RM90,000.
He also confirmed the suspect had four previous cases for drug-related offences. — Bernama
