SUNGAI PETANI: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein (pix) said he will be attending the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) emergency meeting tomorrow to discuss Yemen's attacks on Saudi Arabia.
He said all OIC members were scheduled to converge in Jeddah for the meeting.
Apart from that, Hishammuddin also said that he would be attending another meeting in Riyadh the next day to discuss the future of Yemen in terms of humanitarian aid and reconstruction in the war ravaged country.
"Out stand is very clear, we will be together with Saudi Arabia in defending the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. As for the future of Yemen, we are not planning to send troops to engage in warfare there but look into humanitarian relief and reconstruction efforts," he said.
Hishammuddin, who is also Umno vice president, told this to reporters after launching Kedah Barisan Nasional's election machinery for the 14th General Election yesterday. Also present was Kedah BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, who is also Mentri Besar of Kedah.
Saudi Arabia and Yemen, most of which is now under control of a pro-Iran faction, have been at war for some time now. The rebel faction that is in control of late has been lobbing missiles into Saudi Arabia targetting the holy cities and Riyadh. — Bernama
