KUALA LUMPUR: The RM3 million allocation to the Royal Malaysia Police pensioners is an indication that the government is always concerned over the welfare and needs of the pensioners and their families.
Former Inspector-General of Police Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar said the allocation would benefit about 123,000 police pensioners.
"Affordable homes, special Haj quota and others are the things that we hoped for as former civil servants. If there are people who say that these are 'election candies', for me, it is not true," he told reporters after launching a book, "Golden 66: Golden Jubilee, Class of 1966 The Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK)" at the National Library here today.
On Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak announced that the government would allocate RM3 million annually towards the Police Heritage Trust Fund for a period of three years.
In addition, the pensioners will enjoy special Haj quota, a portion of the 10,000 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Scheme (PPA1M)-PDRM units to be reserved for them and aid would easily be channelled to them through the Police Pensioners' Affairs Division.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Hanif, who is also MCKK Board of Governors chairman, said the book compiled the life experiences of MCKK students from 1962 to 1968.
He said MCKK had produced many government leaders, corporate figures and also general workforce in various fields and the sharing of its former students on their experiences during their schooldays in the book could become an inspiration and motivation to the younger generation. — Bernama
