Three restaurants ordered to be closed over hygiene issues

KEPALA BATAS: Three restaurants have been ordered to close for a fortnight due to poor hygiene at their premises here.
The three restaurants were ordered to close, starting from Jan 19 until Feb 1 under a six-hour operation called 'Ops Tom Yam'.
Penang Health department spokesperson said a team of 19 enforcers had checked on nine restaurants and they had found and ordered three restaurants to close under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
Under the Act, those found guilty of the offence may face the maximum five-year jail sentence, a fine, or both.
"We also have issued 18 notices, totalling RM7,550, under the Food Hygiene regulations 2009 for various offences.
He said they included the presence of dirty cooking utensils and improper food storage.
