Women senior police officers encouraged to join UN mission

KUALA LUMPUR: Women senior police officers are encouraged to take the opportunity to join United Nations (UN) missions, said Bukit Aman Strategic Resources and Technology (StaRT) Department director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
He said the Royal Malaysia Police were looking forward to seeing more involvement of women police officers to participate in UN missions.
"Previously we have sent our lady officers to UN missions in Timor Leste, perhaps in future, we can see more of them to be sent worldwide.
"This is something we cannot force, it has to be done voluntarily by the participants," he told a press conference after the closing ceremony of the 'Female Senior Police Officers Command Development Course' at Royal Malaysia Police College here, today.
Acryl Sani said family commitment was among the obstacles for women senior police officers to participate in UN missions since they are required to be away from their family for six months or more.
A total of 44 female police officers from 22 countries participated in the seven-day course which started Jan 14.
Also present at the event were Deputy Police Commissioner UN Missions in South Sudan Unaisi Vuniwaqa and the commandant of RMP College Datuk Yong Lei Choo. — Bernama
