KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will be providing 39,000 flags of the Federal Territories (FT) in various sizes in conjunction with the FT Day celebration on Feb 1.
Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan said the flags would be flown at all major recreational parks in the federal capital, sports complexes and DBKL-owned community centres as part of the 'Raise the FT Flag' campaign.
"The flags will be supplied to public housing associations, People's Housing Project (PPR flats) schemes and schools around Kuala Lumpur.
"Members of the public can also obtain the flags for just RM11 each at Menara DBKL 1," he told reporters after launching the campaign for Kuala Lumpur-level celebration and the KL Car Free Morning, here today.
Loga Bala said there was no need for the ministry to make the flying of the flag compulsory, but encouraged the residents of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan to take the initiative.
Meanwhile, he said a number of programmes had been lined up for the FT Day celebration, including Karnival Kendera Saji 2018 on Feb 7, Program Korporat Sosial Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur Baiti Jannati (Feb 13) and the 1Federal Territories Cycling Convoy (Feb 24).
"The annual programme of 'Kenduri 1Wilayah Persekutuan' will also be held in Titiwangsa, Bandar Tun Razak, Wangsa Maju, Cheras, Kepong, Setiawangsa, Lembah Pantai and Seputeh parliamentary constituencies throughout February to foster closer ties between the people and ministry," Loga Bala added.
In Labuan, 27 villages, 40 learning centres, more than 80 government agencies and several corporate organisations have started rolling out their plans and strategies to stir feelings of pride and patriotism, by hoisting FT flags in conjunction with the celebration.
The hoist the flag campaign here was witnessed by more than 1,000 Labuan folks.
Member of Parliament for Labuan, Datuk Rozman Isli said the hoist the flag campaign was aimed at nurturing love and respect for the federal territories as well as a symbol of unity.
A total of 2,000 flags were hoisted around the town area today, with a total of 1,307 people taking part in five programmes, namely a car convoy, motorcycle convoy, fun ride, fun run, fun walk, colouring competition and people's carnival. — Bernama
