SHAH ALAM: Opposition parties need to learn from PAS in fighting Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General Election (GE14), PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad said today.
He added that there was an individual who had tried to teach PAS how to fight the ruling coalition in the upcoming elections.
He stressed that PAS was a seasoned party and had faced BN in every general election, except when it sided with the government in 1974.
"There are those who want to teach PAS. To fight BN they need to learn from PAS. They just learned how to become the opposition but now they want to teach us how to become the opposition," Idris said in his speech at the Fastaqim 2.4 gathering held at Section 17 here.
Idris' comment was believed to be directed at former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who has now become the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan's chairman.
PAS, which was part of the now defunct Pakatan Rakyat, left the opposition coalition after a disagreement with DAP.
There have been talks that PAS is eyeing to cooperate with BN's Umno in GE14, but various leaders from the Islamist party have dismissed such a notion.
Speaking in front of thousands of PAS supporters, Idris said the GE14 would be a critical fight for PAS as it would not only fight against BN, but other opposition parties as well.
He added that never in the country's democratic history has an opposition party been under attack by another opposition.
