Escort officer charged with bribing lottery ticket seller

KUALA LUMPUR: An escort officer pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today with corruptly receiving RM3,000 from a man selling lottery tickets.
Muhammad Redzuan Rusmi, 29, was charged with soliciting the money from one Ang Chee Keong as an inducement to not report to the police for selling illegal online lottery at a construction site at Lot 53427 and Lot 53653, Jalan Bakti, Bandar Tun Razak, here.
He was alleged to have committed the offence in a Honda Accord car at Jalan Bakti, Bandar Tun Razak here, at 3pm on Feb 16, 2017.
The charge, under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and fine of not less than five times the amount of gratification, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Judge Azura Alwi allowed Muhammad Redzuan bail of RM12,000 in one surety and also ordered him to report himself at the Kuala Lumpur MACC office every month until the disposal of the case.
She also set Feb 28 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor from MACC Nor Diana Nor Azwa prosecuted, while Muhammad Redzuan was represented by lawyer Mohamad Kamarulzaman Jusoh. — Bernama
