Labuan Fire Dept salvaged properties worth RM19.7m in 2017

LABUAN: The Labuan Fire and Rescue Department salvaged assets worth RM19,796,900 during fire fighting operations last year, said its director Zainal Madasin.
He said during the same period, losses incurred following fire outbreaks in building and properties amounted to RM1,557,100.
"The department is constantly identifying weaknesses for improvement to ensure rescue operations are executed smoothly. Despite increased educational awareness drives, we still recorded four prank calls that are unacceptable," he said after the monthly assembly here today.
He said 720 emergency calls were made during the same period, and, of the number, 163 were on fire; 553 on rescue and special social services.
Last year 30 people involved in accidents were rescued while one death case was recorded due to drowning, he said.
He said the department would continue to increase educational campaign and increase six more fire brigade communities especially within the government quarters in Labuan. — Bernama
