Confusion remains as to the whereabouts of Amri Che Mat

KUALA LUMPUR: There are no immigration records showing that missing activist Amri Che Mat travelled across the border on dates that his wife claimed he was in Thailand.
Police observer ACP R. Munusamy said the Immigration Department does not have any records of Amri crossing the border on November 21, 2016 and returning home on Nov 24, the day he went missing.
"There are no records of him leaving the country on the dates you said. It is not in the Immigration records, this shows that he does not need a passport to leave the country," he said at the inquiry held at Suhakam's headquarters in Menara TH today.
Amri's wife Norhayati Ariffin was unsure if he had left the country, as she still has his passport.
"I am not sure as his passport is still with me. It's at home," she said when asked to produce the passport at the inquiry.
Meanwhile, she claimed that she does not know where her children are studying. The couple have four children of their own, as well as four adoptive children.
Most of their children were educated in Thailand and pursued their education in the Persian language in Iran.
"When he went missing, our adoptive kids were studying in Thailand. I am not sure which part of Thailand. It is a private school, a normal private school that has both religious and academic studies. I am not sure of the name of the school as normally Amri would send them or they would take their own transport," she said.
This prompted Suhakam commissioner Datuk Mah Weng Kwai to question how a mother who also works as a teacher, has no knowledge of her children's school.
"How is it that you don't know? You are also a teacher. You don't know or you don't want to mention?" Mah asked.
Norhayati said she did not know and had only gone to the school once in five years.
Munusamy then revealed that the private school was run by Amri's friend, known as Din, but whose real name is Mohidul Domlux. He works in the Interior Ministry of Thailand.
The inquiry was chaired by Mah and assisted by commissioners Prof Datuk Dr Aishah Bidin and Dr Nik Salida Suhaila Nik Salleh.
