MMEA detains tanker with diesel worth RM500,000

KUALA TERENGGANU: A tanker carrying 240,000 litres of high quality diesel worth about RM500,000 was detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcemen Agency (MMEA) here, yesterday.
MMEA Eastern Region deputy director, Capt V. Pannir Selvan said the tanker, MT Aliya Sari was detained with a crew of five Bangladeshis after anchoring off Pulau Duyong at 9.30am yesterday.
"The crew did not have passports. The tanker believed to be on its way to Pulau Redang from Kuantan had dubious documents for the diesel and had anchored without the permission from the Marine Department.
"The tanker has been detained for further investigation under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, the Customs Act 1967 and the Immigration Act 1959/63," he told a press conference here, today.
The Port Klang registered tanker and its owner were detained in 2016 for anchoring without permission and departing without clearance from the Customs Department. — Bernama
