Girl dies on fire in Putatan

PENAMPANG: A seven-year-old girl was burnt to death while her mother suffered serious burns in a fire which razed four house in Kampung Tebongon, Putatan, early today.
Penampang district police chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim said in the incident at 3.30am, the victim was trapped inside the house and could not be rescued by family members as the fire spread too fast.
He did not reveal the identity of the girl except to say that the case was classified as sudden death.
The victim's charred remains were taken to hospital for a post-mortem, he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department has identified the mother as Siti Sarta Mohd Azmi,26, who suffered burns to 50% of her body.
"We received a distress call about the fire at 3.35am and rushed three fire engines with 22 firefighters to the scene. The operation ended at 7.15am," said a spokesman in a statement today. — Bernama
