SERDANG: Increasing the number of women entrepreneurs in the agricultural and agro-food sector is among the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry vision for 2018, said its minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
He said in line with the government's commitment to make the year 2018 as Women Empowerment Year as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak when tabling the 2018 Budget, the ministry would assist women groups to be more financially and economically independent.
"I urge women groups to grab the opportunities available through the ministry to improve their economic and living standards," he told reporters after delivering his message to over 2,000 ministry staff at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park, here today.
Ahmad Shabery said the ministry plans to create a complete database on women agricultural entrepreneurs while adding that financing agencies under the ministry would allocate 50% of their funds to women entrepreneurs.
He also reminded ministry staff to be aware of the various changes taking place across the globe, following information and communication technologies development, especially in the marketing world. — Bernama
