Road closures to allow for Thaipusam chariot procession

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will close several major roads in the city in stages on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to allow the procession of the silver chariot in conjunction with the Thaipusam festival which falls on Wednesday.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Zulkefly Yahya said today Jalan Sultan, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Tun Perak, Lebuh Ampang, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Sri Amar would be closed in stages in that order on Tuesday (Jan 30).
The procession would begin at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Jalan Tun H.S. Lee and go along the roads up to Jalan Tun Razak where it would make a U-turn in front of the fire and rescue station and go along Jalan Ipoh (Jalan Salleh), Jalan Perhentian, Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Ipoh Batu 5 and to the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Batu Caves, he said in a statement.
Zulkefly said the chariot would make its return journey beginning 4 pm on Thursday (Feb 1) from the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Batu Caves and go along Jalan Ipoh Batu 5, Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Perhentian, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ipoh.
Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Ampang, Lebuh Ampang, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Sultan, Jalan Hang Kasturi, Jalan Hang Lekir and reach the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Jalan Tun H.S. Lee the following morning (Feb 2), he said.
Zulkefly said the roads would be closed and reopened in stages according to the progress of the procession.
He advised people who wanted to get to places along these roads at that time to use public transport so as to avoid the anticipated traffic congestion. — Bernama
