KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today ordered all dilapidated Royal Malaysia Police barracks in the country to be repaired and equipped with basic facilities in accordance with the National Housing Policy 2.0.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, said that for a start the 15 blocks of barracks at the General Operations Force Central Brigade in Cheras would be renovated with an allocation of RM13 million.
"The basic facilities of the barracks have to be in accordance with the National Housing Policy 2.0, meaning a two-room unit has to be upgraded to a three-room dwelling.
"In addition, facilities such as houses of worship like mosques and surau and recreational amenities have to be improved," he said to reporters after a visit to the GOF Central Brigade in Cheras here.
Ahmad Zahid said he would also discuss with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak on the need to provide living quarters for police personnel in areas where house rent was high.
Ahmad Zahid also said that the government would provide for Mara junior science colleges (MRSM) catering especially for children of police officers and personnel.
He said the MRSM would use the Ulul Albab Imtiaz syllabus to enable the children of the police officers and personnel to develop the skill to memorise the Quran while being trained to become professionals. — Bernama
