BAGAN DATUK: The public have been advised not to fall for the #SpoiltVote campaign slogan bandied about by certain quarters on social media which aims at ruining democracy in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the move taken by the quarters trying to become the "third force" in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14) would only ruin the democratic process.
"Whether or not the voters are voting for the existing government, we have to see it on the polling day. It is their right. But, democracy must be exercised," he said when opening the Bagan Datuk Ponggal Fiesta Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Hutan Melintang near here today.
He also said that rather than being spoilt, it was better for the votes to be given to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates so that the ruling party could continue serving the people, regardless of their race and religion.
The #SpoiltVote, #UndiRosak and #ProtesPRU campaign slogans, which had been viral and trending over the social media, called for the young voters to purposely spoil their ballots at the GE14 on the grounds that there was no difference between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk MP, called on the Indian community in the constituency to give their full support to BN so that more development projects specifically for the community could be implemented.
“I have obtained the allocation to build a Hindu temple on a government-owned land here. Although religion is an individual right, we will still help.
“We have also helped the Tamil schools. No need to send me an application letter, I will send aid to these schools,” he said.
Furthermore, he said the crematorium built in Hutan Melintang recently was also for the use of all the Indian community, regardless of their political beliefs. — Bernama
