TAWAU: Foreign students continue to choose Malaysia as a preferred higher education destination due to the quality education offered in the country.
Higher Education director-general Datin Paduka Ir Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir said as of December last year, a total of 177,000 foreign students were accepted to pursue their education at 10 international campuses in the country.
"The students were interested to study in the country, among others, because we have the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), which assures that study programmes offered are internationally recognised," she said, adding that China and Indonesia were among the countries with the highest number of students in Malaysia.
She told this to reporters after the launching of the 2018 Tawau National Higher Education Carnival by Higher Education Deputy Minister, Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, here today, which witnessed participation from 19 higher learning institutions.
"Among the efforts carried to fulfil the aspiration is the set up of the Education Malaysian Global Services, which helps foreign students apply for education visas and expedites its processing," Siti Hamisah said, adding that the ministry aimed to have an intake of 200,000 foreign students by 2020. — Bernama
