Remand for two police officers for alleged corruption

SEREMBAN: Two policemen have been remanded for four days, ending Tuesday, to facilitate investigations into a case whereby, they were alleged to have demanded and received a RM3,500 bribe from a member of the public.
Special Remand Court assistant Registrar Nur Haryatie Mohd Saini issued the remand orders for the inspector and assistant superintendent of police (ASP) after allowing an application by Negri Sembilan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigating officer Riduan Kadri.
On Thursday, a man lodged a report at the state MACC, alleging a policeman from the Serdang police headquarters had demanded for a RM3,500 bribe, failing which his employee would be charged in court for possession of a stolen ViVo phone.
Yesterday about 9.38pm, the MACC detained a 33-year-old inspector at a restaurant in Subang Jaya, Selangor and found RM3,500 in his possession.
Initial investigations revealed that of that amount, RM2,000 was to be handed over to his supervisor.
The MACC instructed the inspector to contact his supervisor to make an 'arrangement' to hand over the latter's share of the money (RM2,000) and temporarily release him for that purpose.
Subsequently, the MACC made a second arrest, this time involving a 38-year-old ASP at a restaurant in Cheras, Selangor at 1.25am. A sum of RM2,000 was found on him.
Earlier, the two suspects arrived at the court about 11am to be remanded and were seen leaving the court, about 30 minutes later.
The case is investigated under section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
