KUALA BERANG: "There are limits, not everything can be shared on social media," said Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Jailani Johari.
He said this in cautioning netizens who liked to disclose their identities which can contribute to cyber crimes and robberies like what happened in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan two days ago.
"Our intention may be just to share pictures to capture memories like birthdays with our families ... but when we do it on social media, we are exposing ourselves.
"There can be negative implications as well like the risk of kidnappings. An example is the article carried by a portal yesterday about flaunting one's wealth," he told reporters after opening the Mini Karnival Usahawan Desa Pusat Internet 1 Malaysia (PI1M) event here today.
Local dailies reported that a trader who conducted business online was seriously injured after being shot and left locked in his office in the Rantau Panjang incident.
It was reported that the victim who sells cosmetics, jewellery and clothing was very active on Facebook where he broadcast himself "live" waving wads of cash. — Bernama
