MALACCA: All local authorities (PBTs) in Malacca need to pay attention, especially to the development of big data in ensuring they are aware of the need to provide the best services for the people.
Melaka Housing, Local Government and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ismail Othman said the development was crucial not only for local authorities, but also as a requirement that would assist the state government in various sectors, particularly in the development of the local socio-economy.
"The local authorities are the third most important branch of the government or closest to the people in managing local current affairs development according to the current needs and public requirement, so it is vital for PBTs to develop this big data," he told reporters here today.
Earlier he attended the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) monthly assembly and launched the Geography Information System (GIS) kiosk, which was also attended by MPHTJ president Datuk Murad Husin.
Big data are very large sets of data that can be analysed to study indepth patterns, trends, behaviour, interaction and relationships, especially involving human beings.
Malacca has four local authorities, namely MPHTJ, Malacca Historic City Council, Jasin Municipal Council and Alor Gajah Municipal Council.
Meanwhile Murad said the GIS kiosk was being developed by MPHTJ, at a cost of RM50,000, to improve delivery system and services to the people under its jurisdiction.
The kiosk located on the second floor of the two-storey complex in Ayer Keroh here could be accessed for free to obtain various information such as review of land use status, including non Muslim graves in Sungai Putat here, rental of stalls and assessment tax. — Bernama
