No poisoned mandarin oranges

JOHOR BARU: State Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism executive committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong denied claims that contaminated mandarin oranges were being sold to the public.
"Mandarin oranges are relatively cheap, so it is illogical for traders to bring in poisoned fruits," Tee said after inspecting festive consumable goods in Taman Impian Emas today.
He said such allegations may be due to competition among traders, adding that mandarin oranges are not controlled items and supply was sufficient for Chinese New Year.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry state chief Khairul Anwar Bachok said there were no complaints on tainted mandarin oranges.
"We checked with the health department as it is in charge of food safety and all imported food must obtain approval from the department first. They told us there has been no such reports," he added.
