Road closures in Ipoh for Thaipusam

IPOH: The police will close several major roads in the city in stages tomorrow and on Feb 1 in conjunction with the Thaipusam celebration, which will be centred at the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Gunung Cheroh on Jan 31.
Ipoh District Police chief ACP Mohd Ali Tamby said today that the road closure would be in three segments, two of which would be tomorrow and one on Feb 1.
The first segment tomorrow will be from 6am to 11.30am to provide for a chariot procession from the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Jalan Sungai Pari to the Sri Subramaniar Temple, he said in a statement.
The roads to be closed in stages include Jalan Sungai Pari, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Lahat, Jalan Sultan Yusoff, Jalan Raja Musa Aziz, the Sultan Iskandar roundabout and Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, he added.
The second segment would be from 2.30pm tomorrow to 2am on Feb 1, whereby the road from the Sultan Iskandar roundabout to Jalan Raja Musa Aziz would be completely closed, he said.
Traffic from Jalan Raja Musa Aziz would be diverted to Jalan Raja Ashman Shah and Jalan Raja Musa Aziz via the Sultan Iskandar roundabout, he added.
The third segment would be from 5pm on Feb 1 to 10.30am on Feb 2 to provide for the return procession of the chariot from the Sri Subramaniar Temple to the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.
The roads to be closed in stages then include Jalan Raja Musa Aziz, the Sultan Iskandar roundabout, Jalan Raja Ekram, Jalan Tun Sambathan, Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang, Jalan Kompleks Islam, Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah and the Bahagia roundabout.
Mohd Ali advised road users to use alternative roads to avoid getting caught in the traffic congestion. — Bernama
