Aliran member arrested, committee wants to know why

PETALING JAYA: Reform movement Aliran Kesedaran Negara (Aliran) hopes the police will state the reason for the arrest of its member, Sarajun Hoda Abdul Hassan.
"We are told he was taken to the Dang Wangi police station. The reason for his arrest is unclear but it is believed he was detained under section 298 of the Penal Code and section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
"We call on the authorities to state the reason for his arrest and to allow him immediate access to a lawyer. He must also be allowed access to any medication he may need," its executive committee said in a statement yesterday.
Section 298 of the Penal Code states causing, disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill will, on grounds of religion.
Section 233 states a person who initiates a communication using any applications service, whether continuously, repeatedly or otherwise, during which communication may or may not ensue, with or without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person at any number or electronic address, commits and offence.
