KUALA NERUS: The road upgrading and construction project to link the Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC) to the Sultan Mahmud Airport (LTSM) costing RM60 million is expected to be completed by April 2019.
Terengganu Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said the cost for the 6.8km road is borne by the federal government and involves two phases.
"The first phase involves the construction of a 3.8km road from Jalan Ketapang Pantai to Muara Utara in KTCC which is scheduled for completion in August this year.
"The second phase which is the remaining 3km is at the design stage because it requires a new alignment based on my request as the assemblyman for Seberang Takir for it to straddle the coastline for a scenic view to draw tourists," he said.
He told this to reporters after the performing the ground-breaking for the project here today. Also present was East Coast Economic Region Development Council chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Razif said the Malta-made amphibious bus (amphicoach) ordered by the Terengganu state government arrived at Port Klang a few days ago.
"It has to undergo Customs clearance and pass Puspakom and Road Transport Department requirements before it can put on the road," he said, adding that once operational, it would act as a catalyst to boost tourism in the state because it is the first of its kind in the region.
On another matter, Ahmad Razif said the state government would refurbish part of the Tourism Gateway building at LTSM to make it a T-Kitchen based on the restaurant in a plane concept.
He said it would be another tourist attraction in Terengganu. — Bernama
