Taman Desa residents to stage protest at site of new condo project

PETALING JAYA: A sit in protest will be staged by residents of Taman Desa this Saturday over the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities following the recent crane crash incident at one of the condominium projects there.
Protest Taman Desa Coalition media coordinator M. Gunasekar said some 200 residents are expected to take part in the peaceful protest that will be held starting at 9.30am.
He added the protest will be held at the site of the new condominium project, where a crane fell last month.
Gunasekar said the decision to hold the protest was made after the residents felt that their complaints to the developer and authorities fell on deaf ears.
"We sent in an objection and memorandum earlier but to date, there has been no feedback from the authorities.
"We have also engaged with the project developer but they don't seem to be bothered about our grievances," he told theSun.
A crane used in the building of the condominium project crashed into an adjacent condominium compound on Jan 23, raising safety concerns from the residents.
Gunasekar said the protests will be joined by residents from nearby residential areas, namely Tiara Faber, Desa 1 Residences and Desa Eight Condo.
He claimed the authorities had not taken any firm action against the contractor and developer after the crane crash incident.
"The residents demand the Department of Occupational Safety and Health to issue a stop work order until all grievances raised by the residents are resolved.
"We also want the developer to agree and abide by the rules and regulations imposed on them," he added.
