Food shop assistant jailed 10 years for causing grievous hurt on unemployed man

KUALA LUMPUR: A Myanmar food shop assistant was sentenced to 10 years jail and two strokes of the cane by the sessions court here today for voluntarily causing grievous hurt on an unemployed man.
Judge Datin M. Kunasundary handed down the sentence on Kap Huang Tuang, 19, after finding him guilty of the charge.
The court found that the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution's case at the end of the defence's case and ordered the accused to serve the jail sentence from the date of arrest on March 12 last year, she said.
Kap was charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt on Muhammad Najibbuddin Nazrin, 19, by using a brick, causing serious injury on the victim's right wrist, in front of Amcwell Hardware Trading, Jalan 3/93, Taman Miharja, Cheras here, at 1.05am on Mar 12 last year.
The charge, under Section 326 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to 20 years, and is liable to fine, or whipping, upon conviction.
