IPOH: The grandmother of nine-year-old Nur Aina Nabihah Muhammad Abdullah, who died in Negri Sembilan early today refused to believe that the child had been abused by her father.
Jara Bibi Sultan Mohammad, 70, said her son was still humane despite being a strict man.
"He is firm only when it comes to educating (his children) but not to the extent of breaking their bones like how the media had portrayed.
"Indeed, he does cane (his children) in order to teach them. He is a soldier, a strict person but would never abuse let alone kill them," she told Bernama at her house here today.
According to Jara Bibi, her granddaughter had gone to sleep after returning home from a Quran class prior to her death.
Nur Aina Nabihah died while being taken to the Tuanku Jaafar Seremban Hospital after she was reported to be unconscious at her family's house in Lukut, Port Dickson at 12.30 am yesterday.
An initial examination found bruises on her body.
The post mortem revealed that the victim suffered severe injuries to internal organs such as kidneys, as well as ruptured intestine and fractures on both left and right ribs, believed to have been hit with blunt objects.
Police detained the girl's father after the autopsy and would be remanded tomorrow to facilitate investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The remains of the victim were buried at the Kampung Kepayang Muslim cemetery here about 9pm. — Bernama
