KUALA LUMPUR: More than 2,500 people including about 100 artistes took part in the 'Seniman Charity Fun Run 2018' organised by Persatuan Seniman, today.
The programme which began at 7am at the grounds of Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Malaysia (Finas), Ulu Klang was flagged off by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
Earlier, Salleh together with Finas chairman Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib joined in the 'zumba' physical exercise before the run was flagged off.
Seniman president, Rozaidi Jamil or Zed Zaidi said the programme, which was being held for the first time, aimed to assist the less fortunate artistes.
"Through the programme, in collaboration with Finas, we could collect funds where each participant had to pay a subscription of RM60 for the jersey, medal and certificate.
"The programme today also enabled the artistes and members of the public to have closer ties and organise various programmes such as the Hari Raya and Hari Seniman programmes which involved artistes and members of the public," he said.
Besides the 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre charity runs, Zed Ismail said Persatuan Seniman also conducted sales of local products, aerobic exercises such as zumba and lucky draws.
Meanwhile, veteran artiste Mubarak Majid, 61, said the programme gave an opportunity to the artistes to become active again.
"The programme is very good, besides participating in recreation for health, veteran artistes can also meet with members of the public while helping the needy artistes.
"It represents an appreciation for the artistes who may no longer be active due to health factors ... at least, this group will not feel neglected when they are assisted," he said. — Bernama
