KUALA LUMPUR: A 46-year-old jobless man pleaded not guilty at the Ampang Sessions Court today to 253 counts of raping his 17-year-old niece.
The offences were allegedly committed at a flat in Ampang here between January 2006 and December 2013, with the first rape allegedly occurring when the victim was just six years old.
He also claimed trial to one count of attempted rape on another sister, now aged 10, between January and December 2017.
The charges were read out before Judge Azrul Darus.
The court later fixed March 13 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Norhashimah Hashim did not offer bail taking into account the gravity of the charges against the accused.
"The accused knew the victim well and knows where the victim lives. If bail was allowed there is a possibility he can harass the victim," she said.
However, lawyer Shahrul Nizam Azwir who represented the accused appealed for bail with the reason that his client does not live with the victim.
Court denied bail and set March 13 for the re-mention of the case.
On Friday, the accused claimed trial to 334 counts of raping the victim's younger sister, now aged 13, with the first rape allegedly occurring when she was five years old, making it a total of 588 charges.
