Deepak Jaikishan to be cross-examined by Santamil's attorneys

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has allowed for businessman Deepak Jaikishan to be cross-examined by lawyers of A. Santamil Selvi, the widow of the late private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, in a suit linked to the murder case of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaaribuu.

Deepak's lawyer Damian Chan said the court has fixed Mar 2 for Deepak to take the stand.
"The cross-examination is limited to two points, which of the two conflicting defences Deepak had intended to file and whether Shafee & Co had the authority to represent him," Chan told reporters outside the courtroom.
Justice Datuk Hue Siew Kheng allowed Santamil's application in chambers after Deepak instructed that his objection to her bid be withdrawn.
Santamil had filed to cross examine Deepak following his two defence statements, where the second statement had contradicted the first one.
The first statement was filed on lawyer Americk Sidhu, who first represented the widow and the children.
The second was by lawyer Datuk Muhammad Shafee Abdullah who was listed to appear for Deepak.
Deepak, who was present in court, hoped that the truth would set him free.
"Finally, may the truth set me free. I will have to tell the court what exactly transpired. I will tell the truth," he told reporters.
He said he will tell the entire story of what exactly happened, from the time Santamil filed her first suit in June 2014, until it was struck out in December that year.
The suit was then annulled on the grounds that Santamil had not obtained a letter of administration to represent the estate of her late husband Balasubramaniam.
Santamil had filed for case management last year Aug 1, against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansur, as well as seven others including Deepak claiming injury and loss of income following the family's exile to India from 2008 to 2013.
They claimed they had to flee to India for safety following Balasubramaniam's first and second statutory declarations (SD) on the murder of Altantuya.
