PETALING JAYA: A 37-year-old man who allegedly murdered his girlfriend, drove to the Damansara police station with her body before surrendering himself to police yesterday in what is believed to be a crime of passion.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said the 32-year-old victim who worked as a clerk at the management office of a condominium in Kota Damansara is believed to have died of a stab wound on her neck.
He said the suspect was a colleague of the victim.
Mohd Zani said preliminary investigations showed that the woman and suspect who were lovers were seated in the former's car at a parking lot in a shopping mall at Kota Damansara about 1.30pm.
"We are yet to determine what really happened but the suspect allegedly stabbed his girlfriend with a sharp weapon while they were in the car. We have recovered the weapon." he told a press conference at the Damansara police station.
Mohd Zani said at 4pm, the man drove the victim's car into the police station and related what had happened to front desk personnel.
He said the man told police that his girlfriend's body was in the front passenger seat before he was promptly arrested.
"We are investigating the motive behind the murder and where the suspect went soon after the killing." he said.
Forensics police arrived the scene at about 5pm and combed the car for clues.
The victim's body was later sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre for a post mortem.
It is learnt that the victim was identified as Tharani Devarajoo and the suspect was an in-house security guard.
Sources revealed that the recovered murder weapon was a knife and jealousy is believed to be the motive behind the killing.
Investigators who questioned the suspect discovered that as they were colleagues, the lovers often went for lunch together.
It was the same yesterday but a fight broke out between them when the suspect was suspicious of the victim and he allegedly threw accusations at her when they were both in the car at the shopping mall carpark.
During the heated argument, the man allegedly stabbed the victim.
Shaken up and confused, he drove off from the scene with his dead lover and over the next 90 minutes he moved around aimlessly in the area before deciding to give himself up.
Several family members and friends of the victim also turned up at the police station yesterday and about 6.50pm, investigators left with the suspect for the crime scene at the shopping mall carpark at PJU5.
It is learnt that forensics police had also gone to the carpark to gather evidence.
