SUNGAI PETANI: A wild sparrowhawk (Helang Sewah) found flying in circles over a house in Kampung Padang Temusu near here for the past three weeks, has been captured by the Kuala Muda district Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) today.
Its officer, Captain Azahar Ahmad said the bird was captured after it attacked the residents of the house.
"One of the victims also informed us that other family members were also injured in the unprovoked attack by the bird.
"When APM personnel arrived at the site, we found the bird perched on the roof of the house and fed with fish before being caught using the nets," he said in a press statement, today.
Meanwhile, one of the victims Nur Athirah Nabilah Nazi, 18, when contacted by Bernama said her family had been feeding the bird with fish or chicken parts since it appeared out of nowhere at their home three weeks ago.
"However, yesterday when we fed the bird, it started attacking me and my relative, and it could be due to the fact that it was still hungry or something and I got injured on my fingers, while my brother and uncle fell when trying to escape from the bird," she said. — Bernama
