NIBONG TEBAL: Three vehicles belonging to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and two other cars that were destroyed in a fire at the parking lot at Jambatan Timbang JPJ in Kuala Kangsar today might be the work of a car cloning syndicate who acted out of revenge against the department.
JPJ Deputy Director General Dato Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman said the two Volvo cars that were impounded by JPJ were identified as cloned vehicles.
He said the two cloned Volvos were seized by the department on Dec 18 last year and on Jan 30 this year.
Wan Ahmad Uzir said the case is still under investigation and JPJ does not rule out that the act was in retaliation for enforcement work being carried out by the department.
"The possibility is there, we didn't rule out the possibility, we are still investigating it," he said during a press conference at the JPJ Vehicles Enforcement Station in Valdor near here today.
Early today morning two JPJ vehicles - a Toyota Fortuner and a Ford Ranger; and the two Volvos were destroyed in the 2.36am incident.
Wan Ahmad Uzir also stressed that the department was used to being threatened and would not be deterred in carrying out enforcement measures.
